The Paradox of Writing & Technology for Life Satisfaction

Hello Everyone!

It’s Thomas here, and what a pleasure it is to be back on your screens.

It was on the way back from the office that I thought of today’s post topics.

First, in the interest of finding out how people could benefit from ME.mory, I joined a support group meeting for men navigating mental illness. It became apparent to me that while ME.mory does help by readily providing the search results for whatever text is desired, another helpful feature is how ME.mory can just allow for people to “let out” whatever may be on their minds.

Writing as a tool to both record and to let go of thoughts. ME.mory serving such a role too.

Writing can simultaneously be a way of recording information and a way of letting it go, seeing how we no longer may feel such a strong urge to ponder the information if we have managed to externalize it by writing it out. We can have the information available when we want to see it, on our own terms, without it remaining in our way. (Given my memory disability, I have little choice when it comes to keeping specific thoughts about events in mind. I have rarely desired the ability to forget more of what has happened within my life. Perhaps that is why I did not thoroughly consider ME.mory as a tool for letting go of our thoughts, our reflections. Hmm.)

Second, I was thinking of how technology is rarely, if ever, an end onto itself. Meaning, technology is typically seen as a means to an end. The coronavirus pandemic is devastating populations worldwide? Then it’s time to develop vaccines (for which I am quite grateful and patiently looking forward to increasing amounts of inoculation.)

Every day I would like to be as happy as she appears to be.

Technology does not exist for itself, but rather to serve a specific purpose as well as can be done. Such is why technology can become obsolete, as some new form of technology ultimately surpasses the limitations associated with the now-obsolete technology. Consider how internet connections and speeds have changed over time.

This can be quite the contrast to art, which I do not believe can become “obsolete”. Yet both art and technology can be focused on the service of life satisfaction. However, given the possibility of obsolete technology, it is our responsibility as technology leaders to pay attention to what is happening around us. What are users seeking from your application or service?

So! I am glad to consider ME.mory in these lights more as we continue to speak with industry leaders within the healthcare and technology spaces. We expect to learn from them how ME.mory could be utilized by them, as we are at a point where we could finetune ME.mory’s development trajectory in the interest of partnerships leading to further overall development.

One part of this is that I am ready to resume attending business pitch competitions and startup networking events. These are likely to pick up steam as vaccinations continue, although remote events will also be occurring.

OK. That’s all for now. Thank you for reading today’s post!
